Teacher Personal Bio
Hi, my name is Demetria, and I’m a homeschooling mother of two beautiful little girls who absolutely love to learn.
At this blog, I will attempt to discuss anything from my perspective on technology in education, to candid accounts of homeschooling projects and experiences my family and I are having. From time to time, I will make an effort to post digital work my children are doing- such as podcasts, slide shows, presentations, or other media- where they (well, okay, my oldest daughter) can present her school work online- and digitally.
Which is the point of this blog.
I have a rather different approach to homeschooling- which is still a work in process even now. I believe in teaching holistically through real books and life experiences as much as possible, but I also believe in a high level of some anticipated structure, where kids can know what to expect in general and can be set up for success in their education. This can include workbooks and seat work, homeschooling methods such as the classical method, following grade level objectives, and even standardized testing.
But I don’t believe education stops there–it has to grow on a child, and on a family. The natural approach comes in handy when you go on trips to the zoo, take digital pictures of the transformation of a butterfly, videotape a fun community event, or create a slide show on how a Spanish lesson was taught and learned.
In addition, I believe that incorporating modern computer technology into children’s lessons should be a priority in order to prepare them for the society in which we live.
These are just a few of my thoughts (you’ll need to read my posts to find out more about how my homeschooling journey transitions)…
Other than homechooling, what do I do?
I run an online women’s ministry where I assist in connecting Christian women worldwide to one another in fellowship, bible study, and encouragement. I provide a podcast, online magazine, and bible study helps, as well as run a general social networking group.
I also own a business I run from my home office, in which Ihave built websites, provided internet marketing coaching, set up podcasts, and created graphic banners for clients. I am slowly phasing out that stage of my business as I focus more on freelance writing.
Do I have any hobbies?
Sure…that is, if I have time for any of them! Ha! But in addition to homeschooling, ministry, and business, I still find the time to enjoy songwriting (I write Christian music and poetry), playing the piano/keyboard, traveling with my military husband, and, of course, BLOGGING and keeping up with my Twitter and Facebook friends.

I'm a geeky, homeschooling mama of 2. I really like digital technology, so I couldn't help but to teach my kids the techie stuff! I believe in integrating technology, when possible, into school lessons and preparing our kids for a digital world. More importantly, we are a Christian family and completely believe in passing our faith in Jesus Christ. Welcome to our home school- pull up a chair, grab some coffee, & welcome to our techie, Christian home :-)
